Gyrotonic Quotes
The Gyrotonic Expansion System
Sometimes jokingly referred to as a medieval rack, The Gyrotonic Expansion System may look torturous but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The machine that’s used in Gyrotonic sessions has in fact been specifically designed to make exercise less painful and more effective.
Uniquely, this innovative piece of equipment creates an even resistance for the body to move through and counterbalances the individual’s own weight, creating a similar feeling to being in water. Unlike most conventional exercise equipment, it allows the individual’s full and complete range of movements to be explored.
The non-weight bearing aspect of the system is ideal for those who are in rehabilitation from injury or for whom high-impact exercise is not advised. The simple circular movements cleverly incorporate equal levels of stretch and strength, promoting alignment, symmetry and co-ordination.
Juliu Horvath – Founder
Ex-professional dancer Juliu Horvath is the creator of Gyrotonic and The Gyrotonic Expansion System. Through injury, he began to study yoga intensively and in time developed his own method of movement (originally called ‘yoga for dancers’), now known as Gyrokenesis. The spinal articulations from Gyrokenesis became the base that Julio created The Gyrotonic Expansion System around. It was built to help facilitate every movement of the body. Juliu still works on refining many aspects of his work today and as instructors we’re continually improving our professional development and staying up to date as it evolves.
